About the artist
My name is Kaleigh Anne Howe and I am an artist from East Texas. I recieved my Bachelors of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacgodoches, TX. My art is my voice, each work created acts as an extension of who I am. I express myself through a series of mark making and risk taking inspired by my life experiences and my perception of the world around me. I am interested in creating artwork that provokes the imagination of my audience to the same extent as my involvement. I believe people in general are creators. We design machines, create new dance moves and even recipes for that perfect meal. For me, I find myself consumed with the compulsion to create art. Whether it be painting, sculpting, etching, or something completely different. In regards to my paintings oil is my preferred medium, however, I will often use acrylic, ink, graphite, or whatever else provides a means for my expression. I choose an abstract approach over realism because I am more concerned with the way textures and colors collide to form the most intriguing artistic expression. A few months ago I was introduced to the art of ceramics. Much like painting I find that ceramics provides an endless outlet for my imagination. I prefer the process of hand building and spend most evenings pinching pottery and watching Netflix. I have been so blessed with family and friends that have endlessly supported and motivated me to continue doing what I love. If you find something that you love, that ignites the fibers of your being, never let go of that. For me, being an artist rather than any other profession has not always been the easiest choice. However, it has been the most rewarding and I will do my best to continue to chase that.
